Overdose Awareness Day: Honoring Lives, Inspiring Change

On August 31st, Mission Ministries Alliance hosted the 8th Annual Overdose Awareness Day for McDowell County. Each year, our planning team begins preparing as early as January to create a night dedicated to honoring the lives lost to overdose and providing a safe space for families to grieve, remember, and find hope.

This year’s event was especially moving. We invited our friend and recovery warrior, Redeemed, to share their gift of music. Their performance was powerful and spirit-filled, touching many hearts in the audience. Throughout the evening, stories of loss, resilience, and recovery were shared, and we witnessed people finding freedom from their struggles at the cross.

God’s presence was undeniable that night. What began as a time of remembrance became a moment of healing and connection for so many in our community.

Overdose Awareness Day is more than an event—it is a reminder that every life matters, that recovery is possible, and that as a community we can stand together against the devastation of addiction.
